We would rate 0 stars if we could. Unfortunately had a very bad experience at 'let's relax' at the Mandarin on a Saturday evening recently. We booked a steam room, floral bath, body scrub and facial but had to cancel halfway through (at the start of the floral bath) without proceeding to the remaining services. An event was on at the hotel and the reverb was so bad and so loud it was unbearable in the room where the services were to take place. To add to the terrible experience when we walked up to the front desk and described the issue, wished to cancel the services that hadn't started and asked for a refund for the remainder (not for the steam and bath which had partly been completed), we were told that we couldn't get a refund. After applying further pressure they further hesitated to refund our money, offered other services (not interested), other locations (leaving Bangkok), and then indicating that it would take 15 days to consider getting a refund. We had to pretty much refuse to leave for an hour and stood around at the front desk and refused to take no before they sorted it out and provided a written email and letter stating that we would get a refund for the services that we didn't proceed with. Unfortunately it's now been well beyond the time that they indicated we would receive the refund and there's been no communication, update or refund in sight. What a terrible experience and appalling customer service. Luckily, given the plentiful options in Bangkok we will certainly not be back again.
I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at this spa in Thailand. During the massage, the therapist applied strong pressure in my underarm area. At that moment, I felt a sharp “electric shock” sensation traveling down my right arm into my hand. Since then, I’ve been left with numbness and heaviness in my thumb and the area between my thumb and index finger. This is not a normal reaction to a massage and strongly suggests improper technique or lack of adequate training. What is even more frustrating is the complete lack of responsibility or concern from the staff afterward. There was no real attempt to understand what happened or to offer any solution. I ended up paying in full and leaving with a physical issue that I did not have before. I strongly advise other customers, especially international tourists, to be very cautious. Make sure your therapist understands English well so you can clearly communicate discomfort or pain during the session. Also, do not hesitate to stop the massage immediately if something feels wrong. In my opinion, the spa should ensure that all therapists are properly trained and capable of safe techniques, especially when working around sensitive nerve areas. Based on my experience, this is currently not the case. Please be careful when choosing this place. It is the second day and my finger seems the same, numb.
The reception staff lacked service mind, speaking abruptly as if talking to an acquaintance, and using rather impolite facial expressions and eye contact. Upon entering, I encountered a group of massage therapists arguing loudly and making a fuss because they were unhappy about another customer who had booked and then cancelled. They were saying something to the reception staff implying that if they encountered customers like that, they should just say the schedule was full. I overheard this and was shocked, thinking they were referring to me because I had booked last minute. I was so upset that I wanted to cancel my massage, as I had paid a high price for good service in a pleasant atmosphere, but I was disappointed by the inappropriate behavior of some of the massage therapists (not the one who served me). The massage therapist who served me was fine; she was polite, attentive, and I didn't have a problem with that. However, I would suggest that the management hire staff with better service mind and provide training on proper etiquette for some of the massage therapists. I've stayed at this hotel many times before, and I'm disappointed that I may not return.
