Our final few days in Bangkok were spent at the Peninsula and, quite honestly, we loved every second of it. From the moment we stepped aboard the hotel’s elegant mahogany shuttle boat we knew we had arrived somewhere rather special. The crew in their immaculate white seafaring uniforms set the tone immediately, calm, polished and quietly attentive. Even on the five minute trip across the river we were handed ice cold bottles of water. A small touch perhaps, but typical of the thoughtful service we experienced throughout our stay. Our luggage disappeared the moment we arrived at the hotel and magically reappeared in our room before we even had time to think about it. The room itself was superb. Beautifully appointed, wonderfully comfortable and with a balcony overlooking the river. In the distance we could see the striking outline of the King Power MahaNakhon Skywalk. Watching the river traffic glide past from that balcony with a cold drink in hand was one of the simple pleasures of the trip. The pool area is another highlight. Staff appeared almost telepathically with fresh towels, chilled water and little treats throughout the day. On one occasion when a tropical shower appeared out of nowhere a pool attendant gently ushered us into one of the charming Thai-style poolside houses just before the rain properly arrived. Within half an hour the sun was back and everything was dry again. Breakfast by the river was beautifully done and the service throughout the hotel was outstanding. Friendly, attentive and always delivered with genuine warmth rather than rehearsed politeness. One of the real treats was afternoon tea in the lobby. It was far quieter than the famous tea service at the The Peninsula Hong Kong which made it feel even more relaxed. We were served a selection of delicate Thai savouries and pastries, including an unexpectedly good octopus bite and a delicious little crab savoury. The tiny scones were accompanied by raspberry jam which more than made up for the slightly unusual cream. The staff handled everything with quiet efficiency, even dealing politely with a rather noisy guest so the rest of us could enjoy the calm atmosphere. It was a thoroughly civilised way to spend an afternoon. The Peninsula manages something quite rare. It delivers real luxury without ever feeling stiff or formal. You are simply looked after from morning until night. A wonderful hotel and a perfect way to end a trip to Thailand. We would return in a heartbeat.
We recently stayed at The Peninsula Bangkok for our very first visit to Bangkok, and even after seeing several other luxury hotels during our trip, we can confidently say — we absolutely made the right decision. From the moment we landed, the experience was seamless. The concierge team arranged VIP fast-track service at the airport (highly recommended), and we were greeted by their driver in a beautiful BMW 7 Series — an elegant start to our stay. (They offer several vehicle options, which is a wonderful touch.) The location is exceptional — right on the Chao Phraya River, offering a true sense of tranquility. The hotel sits set back from the street, so you don’t see or hear any traffic noise, which creates an incredible feeling of privacy and calm. Yet at the same time, you’re within walking distance of the luxury ICONSIAM mall, and the hotel’s private shuttle boat makes it even easier, transporting guests across the river and directly to ICONSIAM throughout the day. Every room and suite faces the river, which is such a rare and special feature. Our spacious suites on the 24th floor offered sweeping views and felt both grand and inviting. We loved the charming, warm décor — timeless, elegant, and very much in keeping with The Peninsula’s classic style. The staff were consistently warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. The concierge team handled all of our excursions flawlessly and even surprised us with beautifully prepared breakfast boxes when we had early morning departures — without us even having to ask. We also thoroughly enjoyed the spa, the hotel’s restaurants, and especially breakfast served on the riverside patio. The setting alone is unforgettable, and the expansive buffet was one of the best we’ve experienced — beautifully presented with exceptional variety and quality. Additional touches truly elevated the stay: daily in-room treats ranging from fresh fruit to delicious house-made pastries, a stunning and private pool area exclusively for guests, and the overall sense that every detail had been thoughtfully considered. We highly recommend The Peninsula Bangkok and would absolutely stay there again on our next visit to this incredible city.
To all travelers, I honestly do not think this is a hotel you would want to return to for a second stay. A hotel that received a “5-Star” rating from Forbes Travel Guide for 2025, yet my stay here was extremely disappointing. I honestly hope it will not receive this award again in the coming years. I went down for breakfast, but I had to stand and wait for more than five minutes because there was no staff member at the restaurant reception desk to greet guests. At first, I thought perhaps guests were supposed to choose their own seats since no one was there to welcome me or guide me to a table. Several staff members walked past me while I was standing at the entrance, yet no one even asked if I needed assistance. Eventually, I approached one of the serving staff and asked whether I could seat myself because nobody was at the reception desk. He told me to walk back to the entrance area and simply pointed in that direction with his finger — even though there was still no staff member there. I went back to the same spot and waited again for over five minutes until a staff member finally arrived and hurriedly escorted me to the dining area. The whole experience made me feel very uncomfortable and as though I had to beg just to receive the complimentary breakfast. If that time period was considered a rush hour, then the hotel should have arranged for more reception staff to manage guests properly, rather than leaving guests standing there confused about what to do next and forcing them to seek help themselves. In addition, the room felt rather old and had a slight musty smell, although it was at least clean. However, based on my experiences staying at many other hotels, I believe hotels under Hilton Worldwide, Marriott International, and IHG Hotels & Resorts generally provide much better service and staff with a far stronger sense of hospitality. Thank you.
